Privacy controls
Turn each capability on or off independently. Every change asks DigiLocker to confirm it's really you, and is logged below.
The ten privacy purposes
Core learning
Required to use the appShow lessons, store progress, save schoolwork.
What this is for: This lets Bodhi save your child's lessons, scores, and notes so we can pick where they left off. Without this, your child cannot use the app — instead of turning this off, you can ask us to delete the whole account on the Export & Delete page.
If off: Turning this off would lock the account. Use the deletion request on the Export & Delete page instead.

Voice with the tutor
Let your child speak to the tutor instead of typing.
What this is for: When this is on, the tablet listens while your child speaks to the tutor. The recording is processed on the device and is not sent to our servers unless your child asks for it.
If off: Your child will still be able to use the tutor by typing. The microphone will be muted.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.6 — voice is personal data
Camera for handwriting
Let the camera read your child's handwritten work.
What this is for: When this is on, the tablet can use the camera to read handwritten answers and notebook pages. The picture is processed on the device. Nothing is uploaded unless your child saves a photo to their portfolio.
If off: Your child will type or upload answers directly instead of using the camera.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.6 — image of a child is sensitive
Screen recording for teacher reviews
Let a teacher review a saved screen capture of a session.
What this is for: Some teachers like to watch a short replay of how a session unfolded — what the child tapped, what hints were used. This is only saved when the teacher asks for it, and you can delete the saved clip any time.
If off: Teachers will not see replays of any future sessions.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.6 — keystroke + screen telemetry is personal data
Face check-in (optional)
Use the front camera as a quick check-in (instead of a PIN).
What this is for: Face check-in runs entirely on the device. The face template never leaves the tablet, and your child can switch back to a PIN any time. We will never use this for advertising.
If off: Your child will sign in using their PIN or QR code instead.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.6 + S.18 — biometric data needs explicit consent
Personalised suggestions
Use your child's history to suggest what to try next.
What this is for: When this is on, Bodhi looks at what your child has practised this week to suggest the next lesson. Suggestions are made on the device for routine activity, and in the cloud only for longer reviews.
If off: Your child will see a class-wide recommended lesson instead of a tailored one.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.4 — profiling minors requires verifiable parental consent
Anonymous trend reports
Allow your child's anonymised activity to be counted in school-wide trends.
What this is for: School and government partners get count-level reports (e.g., 'how many children mastered fractions this term'). Individual scores are never shared. The numbers are blurred so a single child can never be re-identified.
If off: Your child will not be counted in school-wide reports. They can still use every feature.
Last changed: 4/20/2026, 1:00:00 PM · Legal basis: DPDP S.17(2) — research/statistics with safeguards
Updates to you (the parent)
Weekly digests, teacher messages, and important alerts.
What this is for: Sends you a Sunday-evening summary of the week, teacher messages, and timely alerts (for example, if a deletion request is ready). You can pick channels (email, SMS, in-app) on the Settings page.
If off: You will not receive weekly summaries. Urgent alerts (for example, deletion confirmations) will still arrive by email.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.7 — transactional communications
Bodhi marketing emails
Off by defaultLet Bodhi tell you about new features, events, and offers.
What this is for: Strictly opt-in. Marketing is OFF by default per the DPDP rule that parental consent cannot be assumed. If you turn this on you can turn it off again at any time.
If off: You will no longer receive marketing emails. Account and safety emails continue.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.7(7) — silence is not consent; marketing is opt-in only
Brain-wave research (Phase 2 / opt-in study)
Opt-in researchLet Bodhi use anonymised brain-wave data from the optional headband in a registered IIT-Madras research study.
What this is for: This is only relevant if you have purchased the optional research headband. Raw brain-wave data is never sent to our servers — only blurred summaries are shared, and only with the named research team. You can withdraw at any time and your child's existing data is deleted within 30 days.
If off: Your child will not be enrolled in the research study. The headband still works for personal use on the device.
Last changed: 4/12/2026, 4:30:00 AM · Legal basis: DPDP S.6 + S.18 (sensitive data) + IRB-approved research protocol
Marketing emails are off by default. We cannot assume you agreed — the law requires you to choose.
